Description

The aim of this workshop is to prepare you to use Canvas to support the blended delivery of your module content and create an engaging online learning environment for your students.

Workshop Schedule (October to December 2018)
  • Fri 19 Oct (10:00- 13:00): Lanyon North OG/020
  • Wed 24 Oct (09:30- 12:30): Lanyon North OG/020
  • Mon 19 Nov (10:00 - 12:30): Lanyon North OG/020
  • Thurs 06 Dec (10:00 - 12:30): Lanyon North OG/020
Intended Audience:
  • Those responsible for delivery of module content.
Prerequisite:
  • Must have a current Canvas account in order to participate in this workshop

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop you should be able to use the Canvas VLE to:

  • Confidently navigate academic module(s)
  • Communicate effectively with your students
  • Add content and manage resources
  • Create learning activities which facilitate blended learning
  • Mark and grade assignments and give feedback to students

Topics Covered:

  1. Introduction to the Canvas Interface.
  2. Customising your Profile, Settings & Notification Preferences.
  3. Adding/ editing module content (Canvas folder structure, uploading files, module structure, adding content, links to internal & external resources, embedding videos, recording live audio/video, performing an accessibility check, undo & page history functionality, recommended readings).
  4. Creating learning activities in Canvas; Quizzes and discussions.
  5. Overview of Canvas communication tools.
  6. Using the Speedgrader to Grade assignments and give feedback to students.
  7. Using the Gradebook to manage student grades and feedback.
